Jamis is a U.S.-based brand of high-quality bicycles with popular features and great value. Recycled Cycle & Service is proud to offer several models from its recreational lines.
These bikes combine carefully designed frames, proven componentry and great looks -- all at competitive prices. Whether aluminum or steel, they are excellent choices for beginner to intermediate riders seeking sporty yet stable performance.
At company headquarters in New Jersey, Jamis designers and engineers create no-nonsense bikes that perform reliably without simply following trends. Time-honored geometry and modern materials are combined and refined for crisp handling and versatility. The best in evolving equipment options are specified to meet -- or exceed -- cyclists' expectations at various price points.
Innovation is an integral facet of Jamis' R & D. Jamis pioneered the use of 650-B wheels for mountain bikes. Jamis developed its own carbon fiber manufacturing processes. The company has won multiple "Editor's Choice" awards from Bicycling magazine for its recreational and enthusiast road models, and mountain bikes, too.
"We tune and refine relentlessly ...," Jamis materials state. "It's about making bicycles more accessible, more affordable and more capable."
Although modern in its forward-thinking designs, the family-owned company boasts cycling heritage that goes back some 80 years. That's when Cypress native and entrepreneur George Joannou came to the United States and soon opened G. Joannou Cycle Co. to import and distribute lightweight bicycles for the American market.
Over the years, his initial sources in Great Britain and France expanded to include suppliers in Japan and Taiwan. Recognizing the immense and ongoing growth of cycling in the U.S., Joannou helped establish the Jamis brand in 1979. Greg Webber, an early employee of Jamis, still serves as vice president of product development.
Joannou's daughter Carine took over the lead at Jamis in 1981 and guided the company to become a player in the global bicycle market. It now sells Jamis bikes in 52 countries around the world.
